Restaurant Review: Rumi’s Kitchen, Atlanta (Georgia)

Restaurant Review: Rumi’s Kitchen, Atlanta (Georgia)

Photo features: Lamb Sliders prepared with ground lamb and laid atop a flatbread. You can see the beautiful roasted tomato, pickled red onion with cucumber yogurt. Mint leaves have been used as a garnish. Together they not only make the dish look colorful but also incorporate a variety of flavors.

We had this amazing appetizer at Rumi’s Kitchen. This is one of those good dining places where you will not mind paying a little extra for the delicious food. For those who like valet parking, this is the place to go. Very courteous and nice staff and very attentive towards the customers.

If you have never tried Persian cuisine before, this could be a very good place to start with.

Now Lamb sliders come with a mild cucumber yogurt but I read that Rumi’s Kitchen also have spicy wings or if you are in a mood for something zesty, sweet and sour then you can also go for Dolmehs which is going on my food list as ‘Must Have This Dish Next Time’. You see there are just so many great items to try from their menu that I totally missed having this one. So I asked them and came to know that Dolmeh is prepared in a fascinating way. A stuffing is prepared with rice, golden raising, ground beef, dried mint, savory and other spices. Then that stuffing is wrapped in grape leaves and cooked in a pomegranate sauce. Now this may be a case of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ and let me tell you why, because of the grape leaf wrapping, Dolmeh looks very green but I am sure this tastes really good and I can’t wait to try this.

Of course how can I forget the welcome platter - freshly baked flatbreads served with olives, mint leaves, walnuts, tarragon, radishes and feta cheese. It is something so simple yet so unique to start the meal with (the platter on the right side of the Lamb sliders).

The best flavors in food can only be obtained by using the freshest ingredients. Here at Rumi’s kitchen fresh meat and poultry is marinated in a saffron sauce, placed on skewers, and cooked on an open broiler which creates that delectable taste and aroma in all the meals. See the above photo? This is a Barg Kabab prepared with beef tenderloin and served with a saffron basmati rice and roasted tomato. Juicy and tender meat with aromatic rice creates a perfect combination of flavors.

I kept the best for the last! This is my favorite dish at Rumi’s Kitchen - Lamb Kabob where Lamb sirloin is marinated with a mint yogurt paste and slow cooked. It is served with a lentil and raisin basmati rice with a roasted tomato. The Kababs taste great with the flatbreads as well so this time we ordered a couple extra.

You know the fun part? We have had Kabab Naan so many times, I mean Mughlai food is a part of Indian cuisine so we know many different types of Kababs but the fun in trying a new cuisine is, you know how much there is to explore! You eat something different, you read about the food, its origins and then you have something new to discuss with your friends and family. Food is a serious part of our social lives and there is no fun in eating the same food everyday. By trying different cuisines who knows maybe you will like eating something which you never did. Take me for example, I never liked fish curries but I love grilled fish and sushi! And this opened a whole new set of food items which I can now enjoy. So, my suggestion, this weekend try something new, plan a date with your beloved or just a casual meal with your family and go to this amazing restaurant, sit and sip and enjoy new flavors.
