Amelie’s - French Bakery and Café, Charlotte, North Carolina

During our Charlotte (North Carolina) trip, Debarshi and I visited an amazing bakery. Its called Amelie’s - French Bakery and Café. For those who have not had French desserts before, I would highly recommend to visit a local French bakery. A few desserts you can try are - Crème Brule, Éclair, Macaroon, Soufflé and Mousse.

As you can see there are so many different varieties of desserts in the display. Everything looked so good that we found it really difficult to select just one or two types of desserts. So we picked different varieties and created an assorted box of desserts which took some time but was worth it.

The desserts which we had were not very sweet which was perfect for me. The cream was light and fluffy and every dessert tasted different and special. Now, I am really fond of watching Baking Championship Shows and I have noticed that the Chefs usually go for French desserts and that is because these desserts are prepared using different varieties of fruits, nuts and cream. The preparation technique is also quite different for example, to prepare the French Macaroons the cookies are first left at the room temperature for about 15 minutes and then baked. This step is done to remove any air bubbles. If they crack while baking, then that batch goes to the wastebasket. It will be correct to say that baking a French dessert requires a good deal of knowledge and expertise.

When visiting a new city, Debarshi and I love going to local cafes and restaurants which have a character of their own. This bakery has a unique atmosphere. Amelie’s has been decorated with French antiques, bright colors and different varieties of art elements. You can feel that someone has devoted a good deal of time to decorate the whole café. Amelie’s leaves an impression on our mind that it is just not another cafe joint which makes the overall experience even better.

As soon as you enter in the bakery there is a huge doll hanging from the ceiling and it looks like the doll is there to welcome you. I really liked the idea of hanging the doll and other decorations as it created more space in the café to sit comfortably while enhancing the look at the same time.

If you are thinking I took a tilted picture, then the answer is No!
This whole café has been decorated in different angels. Like this chandelier which has been hanged in a slanting position. The café has lots of beautiful paintings as well.

What is a mound of mundane utensils doing in the middle of the cafe? But if you see it closely, all these utensils are actually used for baking. You have whisks, strainers, pots and pans and different types of spatulas. Notice how these utensils have been wrapped around lights which make it look so mesmerized.

So, the next time you are in Charlotte, NC, do go to this beautiful bakery and try the desserts specially the Pecan Sticky Buns, Éclairs, French Macaroons and Petit-Fours.

Bon Appetit!
