I have been experimenting with cracker recipes for some time now and I think I have finally found one which is both yummy and easy. These homemade crackers are ready in just 15 minutes and that includes the preparation/ rolling time. They are crispy, crunchy and surprisingly easy to make. Serve them with jam, cheese, soup or just munch on them.
You will need a rolling pin and a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Since it is almost impossible to explain exactly how thin the dough should be rolled, the crackers may start turning brown before the given baking time so keep an eye on them. Vice versa if you have rolled it a bit thick it will take longer than ten minutes. If they do turn slightly brown (like the ones in the photo above) do not throw them out, sometimes they still taste good.
Ingredients:
- All Purpose Flour - 1 ¼ cups
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Kosher Salt – ½ teaspoon
- Butter - 4 tablespoons, unsalted, cut into small pieces
- Water - 1/3 cup (room temperature)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Put flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor (I used my Ninja Chopper).
- Add the Butter and blend until butter is fully incorporated.
- With the blade running, add the water (a little at a time) and blend until a smooth dough forms. If you need to, pause the food processor and push down any bits to ensure all the ingredients are added to the dough. (You may not need all the water).
- Once smooth, remove the dough and divide it into 2 equal pieces.
- Lightly flour your work surface and roll one of the dough pieces into a large rectangle. As you roll the dough out, lift it up frequently and turn it to keep it from sticking to your work surface. Make the dough as thin as you can. The thinner the dough is, the flakier and tastier the Crackers will be. If you roll it paper thin, the crackers may start turning brown before 10 minutes, so keep an eye on them.
- Use a pizza cutter or butter knife to cut the dough into 1 inch square crackers. If you have odds and ends of dough left, you can either form it into a ball to roll out, or just make a batch of misshaped crackers.
- Place the cut crackers on the baking sheet and continue the same process with each ball of dough.
- Bake the crackers on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper until crisp and lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes. Do keep an eye on them.
- Remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- You can store them in an airtight container for 4-5 days.
- Enjoy them with jam, cheese, soup or just munch on them.
