You may not like my amateur poem writing skills but you will certainly like this breakfast. It’s fun to make and delightful to eat. Plus, you can serve this to anyone regardless of age. Egg in a hole makes a simple yet satisfying breakfast.

Ingredients:

• Butter – Unsalted, 1 tablespoon
• Bread - a thick slice of really good white or whole wheat country bread
• Egg – 1 large
• Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper

Tips:

• I like a runny yolk which can be mopped up with the crispy bread. Cooking on a low heat is ideal for it.
• Use a non-stick pan so that the egg doesn’t stick.

Directions:

• Cut a round hole in the center of a slice of bread with a biscuit or cookie cutter. (You can even use the rim of a small glass.)
• Heat the pan over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt.
• Add the bread and let the butter soak into the bread so that it develops the flavor and crunch.
• Reduce the heat to low. Flip the bread and carefully crack a large egg into the center. Don’t move the bread for at least 30 seconds or so. Season with Salt and Pepper.
• Fry the little bread circle as well till it turns beautifully brown.
• Serve hot.
